Muse AI LLC (“Muse,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides a voice-based service that helps people preserve stories from their lives through guided conversation, transcription, artificial intelligence, and narrated audio. The service is offered under the names Muse and MuseChat; references to “Muse” in this Policy include both.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and disclose it, how long we retain it, and the choices and rights available to you. It covers the Muse application and services and, as described in Section 12, the musechat.app website and waitlist.
In this Policy, “Content” means recordings, stories, transcripts, text, prompts, and other materials that you provide to Muse or create through the Service, as described in the Terms of Service.

Where feasible, we seek to retain only the information needed to establish age eligibility rather than retaining more precise age information than necessary.
When you speak with Muse, we may collect:
Conversations may contain personal information about you or other people.
Because you decide what to talk about, your conversations and stories may include sensitive information, such as information about health, religion, family relationships, or ethnicity, about you or about other people. We process that information only to provide the Service at your direction. We do not use the content of your stories or conversations to build a profile of you, to infer characteristics about you, or for advertising.
You should not intentionally record another person through Muse unless you have obtained any consent required by applicable law.
If you choose to use Muse’s synthetic voice features, we process recordings of your voice to create a synthetic voice representation capable of generating narrated speech that sounds like you. We do this only when you approve a story for narration: a temporary voice representation is created from your recordings, used to produce that story’s narrated audio, and then deleted. Muse does not keep a standing voice model between stories.
Before we first create a synthetic representation of your voice, Muse will ask for separate affirmative consent describing the purpose of the voice feature, the information being processed, where it is processed, and when it is deleted. Each voice representation is created by Muse on systems we operate, is used only to narrate the story it was created for, and is deleted as described in Section 6.3. Your voice is not sent to a third-party voice-synthesis provider.
Depending on the technology used, information derived from your voice may be treated as biometric information or a biometric identifier under applicable law.
To the extent applicable law treats the voice information we create or maintain as biometric information or a biometric identifier, we will collect, retain, disclose, and destroy that information in accordance with applicable biometric-privacy requirements and this Policy. Our retention schedule for this information is described in Section 6.3.
We do not sell, lease, trade, or otherwise profit from biometric identifiers or biometric information.

When you provide your phone number, we use it to send one-time verification codes and important service messages by text message. Message and data rates may apply. You can stop text messages by deleting your account or contacting us; stopping verification messages may prevent you from signing in.
Muse uses automated systems, including artificial intelligence, to process some of this information. Some of that processing is performed by third-party artificial-intelligence providers acting on our behalf, as described in Sections 3 and 4.2. Before your conversations are first sent to those providers, the application asks for your permission and explains what is shared. You can withdraw that permission by deleting your account or contacting us; withdrawing it will prevent Muse from transcribing conversations or creating stories.
Automated transcripts, summaries, stories, and synthesized audio may contain errors. Muse provides tools intended to allow you to review Content before sharing it.
Unless you separately and affirmatively opt in, Muse will not use your private recordings, stories, transcripts, or synthetic voice data to train general-purpose artificial intelligence models.
We use third-party AI and infrastructure providers to process some information on our behalf.
Muse will configure or contract with service providers processing this information on our behalf so that they may not use it to train their general-purpose models except where you have separately consented or where we clearly disclose a different arrangement before the information is provided.
Muse shares stories and other Content with other users only when you use the Service’s sharing features or otherwise direct us to share it.
Your account does not automatically expose your private recordings, stories, or conversations to another Muse user.
We use companies that provide services such as:
These providers process information on our behalf to perform the services we request. We require them to protect personal information to a standard at least as protective as this Policy and to use it only to provide services to Muse.

If Muse is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, sale of assets, or similar business transaction, personal information may be disclosed or transferred as part of that transaction.
Any successor receiving personal information remains subject to applicable privacy law and the commitments applicable to that information.
Muse does not sell or share your personal information for money or for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Muse does not sell or license your recordings, stories, or synthetic voice for advertising.
Muse does not use your private stories or conversations for targeted advertising.
Muse does not sell, lease, trade, or otherwise profit from biometric identifiers or biometric information.
We retain different categories of information for different periods based on why the information is needed.
While your account is active, we generally retain information necessary to provide the Service, including your account information, recordings, transcripts, and stories.
You may be able to delete individual Content through the Service.
If a deletion feature includes an undo period, the Content may remain recoverable during that period before permanent deletion begins.
You can delete your account from within the application. When you delete your account, we begin deleting personal Content associated with your account, including recordings, transcripts, stories, and synthetic voice data, except information that we are permitted or required to retain for another legitimate purpose described below.
When you delete your account, you may choose whether stories you have already shared with other people remain available to those people or are deleted with the rest of your account. If you do not make a choice, shared stories are deleted.
Deletion from active systems may not be instantaneous.
Information may remain temporarily in backups, security logs, or other systems where immediate deletion is technically impracticable, but it will not be restored to active use except where necessary for disaster recovery, security, or legal compliance and will be removed through our normal deletion or replacement processes.
You may withdraw consent to the creation of further synthetic representations of your voice.
Each synthetic voice representation exists only while narrated audio for a story is being produced. Once that story’s audio has been produced, the representation is deleted from our systems; this normally happens within the same session, and in every case within seven days. When you withdraw consent or delete your account, Muse will not create further voice representations. Narrated audio that was already produced for stories you approved is not a biometric identifier and is retained with those stories.
To the extent voice information qualifies as a biometric identifier or biometric information under applicable law, Muse retains it only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, and in any event destroys it by the earliest of:
This schedule is intended to satisfy applicable biometric-privacy laws, including the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.
Where Muse provides memory or personalization features, you may ask Muse to forget specific information.
We will explain what information the request affects before deletion where the product provides such a flow.
A forgetting request may remove information from Muse’s conversational memory without necessarily deleting a source recording or story unless you also request deletion of that Content.
Some limited records may be retained after you delete Content or your account where reasonably necessary for:

We seek to minimize the amount of Content contained in operational and diagnostic records.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.
We may need to verify your identity before completing certain requests.
Residents of jurisdictions with a privacy regulator or supervisory authority may also have the right to submit a complaint to that authority.
California residents. Muse does not sell your personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information (such as your voice data or the contents of your stories) for any purpose other than providing the Service you request. If you use our website with a browser signal such as Global Privacy Control enabled, we treat it as a request to opt out of any sale or sharing associated with that browser. California residents may exercise the rights above by contacting privacy@musechat.app, and an authorized agent may make a request on your behalf with your written permission.
Muse is intended only for users who are at least 18 years old.
We do not knowingly permit people under 18 to create accounts.
If we learn that we have collected personal information from a person under 18 in violation of this requirement, we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information.

If we discover a security breach involving personal information, we will provide notifications where required by applicable law.
Muse AI LLC is a United States company, and core Muse infrastructure may be located in the United States.
Some service providers may process information in the United States or in other countries depending on the provider, service configuration, and processing location.

If you use Muse from outside the United States, your personal information may be transferred to and processed in a country other than the country where you live.
Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, we will use appropriate mechanisms for those transfers.
This section applies to the musechat.app website and to the waitlist we operate there.
What we collect. When you join the waitlist we collect your email address and, if you tell us, whether you are interested in Muse for yourself or for someone you love. Our website hosting provider records standard server information such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you request.
Advertising and analytics. We use advertising partners, currently Meta and TikTok, to measure our advertising. Their tools may set cookies or collect standard usage data on our website, such as pages visited, device type, and how you found us, and may combine that information with information they hold about you from other websites and services. This means third parties may collect information about your online activities over time and across different websites when you visit musechat.app. You can limit this through your browser’s cookie settings and through the privacy settings offered by those partners. Our website does not respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals, because there is no common standard for them; we do honor Global Privacy Control signals as described in Section 8.
How we use it. We use your email to send you waitlist updates: a short note from the founders, roughly weekly, plus your beta invitation when it is ready. We use aggregate signup and analytics data to understand which of our messages resonate.
Who receives it. Waitlist emails are sent through MailerLite, and the website is hosted by Netlify. These providers may use your information only to provide their services to us. They are listed, with our advertising partners, at https://musechat.app/providers.
Your choices. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You can also ask us to delete your waitlist information entirely by writing to privacy@musechat.app, and we will.
The Muse application does not use advertising or analytics partners; the practices described elsewhere in this Policy apply to the application.
We may update this Privacy Policy as Muse evolves.
If we make a material change, we will provide reasonable notice through the Service, by email, or through another appropriate method.
Where applicable law requires consent for a new use of personal information, we will obtain that consent rather than relying only on an update to this Policy.
The effective date and version at the top of this Policy identify the current version.
